There’s a lot of angst in the world right now. I know…that’s a vast understatement. It’s more like we’re all unwitting participants to a horror movie we didn’t buy a ticket to see. That feature film is chock full of stunners including the Trump Crime Syndicate’s shock and awe program, the gutting of our democracy by oligarchs, a tanking economy and non-stop hate from a vocal minority of Americans. When presented with too much information and choice, rational humans often become stultified and choose nothing.
That’s what the troika of exploitation -- white supremacy, capitalism and patriarchy – wants us to do. By design, these systems overwhelm us to shut us down. What’s more, all of these umbrella systems operate on the artificial premise of perfectionism. That never-ending treadmill of suck runs day and night, keeping us grasping for something that simply doesn’t exist. Eventually, we give up an step off the treadmill. These systems of exploitation want it that way.
Scoreboard: troika = 1; us = 0.
Here are 3 tips to make boycotting and conscientious consumerism less overwhelming.
